A beautiful, hand-crafted cutting board can elevate your cooking experience. These make great gifts for a chef in your life (or yourself!).
I make (mostly) end-grain cutting boards because — compared to flat grain or edge grain — they are the most “knife friendly” and they offer the most interesting design possibilities. Each board is handmade and unique. I want them to be beautiful cutting boards that are used and enjoyed, not show pieces.
Materials
My primary concern in choosing woods and finishes is that they be food safe. Please see the Food Preparation Safety page for important information about proper hygiene to keep your wooden cutting boards safe to use.
Some of my favorite woods are maple, cherry, black walnut, oak, and pine.
I use a two-step finish — first, two applications of food-grade mineral oil, then with cutting-board wax or conditioner. These are some of the finishes I use:
